When I was pregnant with my twins, Wyatt and Olivia, my mom threw me a beautiful baby shower. Instead of bringing cards, my mom asked everyone to bring their favorite children’s book with a message written inside to the twins. The idea was to start their book collection early. We received tons of books and we are so grateful for each and every one of them. A couple stood out and quickly became our favorites. We especially loved the children’s books written by best-selling children’s author Nancy Tillman. Her book, “Wherever You Are, My Love Will Find You,” became our favorite of all time. I read it to the kids almost daily and they loved to look at the pictures and hear her beautiful writing.

Her book took on even more significance after Olivia was diagnosed with brain cancer. Watching our baby girl fight for her life and knowing that losing her was a real possibility, Nancy’s beautiful words about the deep love parents have for their children had great meaning. The last page of her book reads, “You are my angel, my darling, my star and my love will find you wherever you are.” That phrase meant so much to us that I began to say it to her all the time. Especially during those tough chemo days. It seemed to give both of us peace. And it was so true. Olivia truly is my little angel. She was my angel on earth and now my angel in Heaven. And the night after she passed away, we were graced with a beautiful, single bright, low-lying star that has stayed with us every night since. I know without a doubt that this beautiful star is my sweet Olivia letting us know that she’s okay and she loves us deeply. I have no doubt that one of the reasons she appears to us in that way is because of that phrase from this important book.

After Olivia passed away I wrote to Nancy Tillman one night and through a lot of tears, I told her about how much her book has meant to my family. She was gracious enough to write me back and to tell me that she would be happy to support our foundation by signing 100 personalized bookplates on a copy of her children’s book as a fundraiser for the Olivia Caldwell Foundation. We are so grateful!
